My time as a student teacher has highlighted both my strengths and areas for growth related to content knowledge. Some of my strengths in this area are incorporating additional materials and digital tools into teaching to make learning easier and more meaningful for every student, addressing misconceptions and helping students develop a correct and clear understanding of the concepts, and explaining the academic language in ways that students can understand. I do this by using educational apps on tablets to reinforce basic skills like counting, letter recognition, and phonics through interactive games on iReady or Teach Your Monster How To Read. Also, by using simple, clear explanations and demonstrations to correct misunderstandings. I help students understand academic language by giving them an example of what it means or how to use it in a sentence or using visual aids, such as pictures and flashcards and relating academic language to everyday experiences.
During my time as a student teacher, I've gained insight into both my strengths and areas for growth concerning the application of content. Some of my strengths include effectively engaging learners in applying content knowledge to real-world situations, fostering adaptable learning environments that cater to various learning styles, and comprehending communication modes and skills. For instance, I organized an activity centered around community helpers where I taught students about their roles in the community through discussions, shared readings, and interactive activities like creating crafts. Additionally, I implemented a weekly event called "Discovery Day," during which students explore different subjects through hands-on activities, discussions, presentations, and writing workshops. This approach encourages active participation and reinforces learning dynamically and engagingly. I understand that communication modes, such as speaking, listening, reading, and writing, are crucial for gathering and processing information in various disciplines.
