Maria uses the coloured ball coaching system (red, orange, green and yellow balls-ROGY) to teach children fundamental tennis skills in a progressive incremental way. This method is approved by the International Tennis Federation and Tennis Ireland.
The red ball has a low bounce and moves through the air slowly making it easier to hit. The slower ball allows the beginner player to connect with the ball at a low height thereby developing the desired ‘low to high’ swing. Rackets are sized for small hands and courts are smaller and easier to cover. The orange and green balls further develop these techniques by gradually increasing the height and pace at which the ball bounces and the racquet length and court size are gradually increased as the player progresses through the ball colours.
It is recommended that players remain in each colour until proficient in their skill acquisition. There is also an age restriction on when a player can proceed to the next colour.
Maria is always available to discuss individual requirements but the following guidelines apply;
Red Ball:
19-23" racquets
36’ Court size
Orange Ball:

60’ Court size
Green Ball:

Regulation Yellow Ball:
