Secondary Helix Nut
Tools Used
Manual mill
Manual lathe
Process Overview
Machined the external hex profile on the manual mill using an end mill
Faced and turned the part to size on the manual lathe
Used a center drill followed by drilling to establish the internal bore
Bored the inner diameter to final size using a boring bar to improve concentricity and dimensional accuracy
Single-point cut an external 1-1/8–12 UN thread on a test stock piece to serve as a functional external thread gauge
Single-point cut the internal 1-1/8–12 UN thread on the lathe and verified proper fit using the externally machined thread gauge
Deburred all edges and verified final dimensions were within drawing tolerances
Lead Screw (Top hole was ignored as it was not needed)
Tools Used
Manual lathe
Process Overview
Faced the part and turned all outer diameters to size on the manual lathe
Turned stepped features/shoulders and chamfers according to the engineering drawing
Cut external 1/4–20 UNC threads along the shaft using a threading die
Deburred all edges and verified final dimensions were within drawing tolerances
