SUSTAINABLE TECHNOLOGIES STUDIO
Course Information
The Design Pre-Thesis 3 is an advanced level architectural design studio that focuses on the Sustainable Technologies theme. It provides a unique opportunity for the students to pursue a wide range of issues, including (but not limited to) environmental issues, energy, sustainable habitat, building environmental, building technology, building information modelling, parametric design, and multitude of environment-building-human equilibrium issues.
Each student will independently embark on an exploratory journey related to the design programme. They are required to use the brief formulated from the companion course MBEA1223 and use it as the guiding principle for their design development.
Recursive Design Studio Panel
Recursive Design is a generative process of form-making in architecture. It is a broadbased, process oriented system that could be adopted in various situations: from explorative amorphous skin design to conservative reiteration of vernacular architecture.
The goal of using Recursive Design is primarily on streamlining the form-making process by limiting the formative elements yet using it recursively to produce elaborate architectural solution.
The outcome we shall explore is unhinged, bold and aggressive; but the process shall provide insight on how computational design could be used to produce alternative architecture that captures the spirit of architectural ingenuity while at the same time be respectful to contextual, historical and cultural elements.
