SOCIAL CULTURE STUDIO
The Design Pre-Thesis 1 is an advanced-level architectural design studio focusing on Socio-Cultural themes. It provides a unique opportunity for the students to pursue a wide range of issues, including (but not limited to) community, neighbourhood, cultural, heritage, gender, religious, psychological, regionalism, conservation and so on.
Each student will independently embark on an exploratory journey related to the design programme. They are required to use the brief formulated from the companion course MBEA1213 and use it as the guiding principle for their design development.
Social housing entails the development of a new way of communal living that demands new areas of domestic and community relationships. Social housing is rented or sold at prices that are not ruled by the market but by the economic capacity of interested tenants. In the case of rent, private companies and the State can offer the social housing model. This is a model used worldwide that is continuously increasing due to the economic crisis experienced in recent years, which has made this type of housing necessary to correct the poor functioning of the real estate market. The ideal inhabitants for this type of housing range from students, young couples and families with children to the elderly or people with special needs. This housing system is designed to improve the life quality of these citizens, and it is necessary to fulfil a series of requirements to access this type of rent that varies according to societal needs. The number of occupancy and type of users depends on on-site issue-based development by students.
