I believe that classroom management is pivotal to a successful learning environment.
I believe that classroom management is pivotal to a successful learning environment.
The characteristics for a well managed classroom:
Establishing a climate of respect is vital for learning to take place. A student needs to make sure they show respect for themselves, their peers and the teacher. If we can respect each other then we will not need a lot of rules.
I will have high expectations for each student in my classroom. I want my students to know I believe in them. I will strive to help them reach their potential in my class. In turn, I hope to cultivate belief in themselves and their abilities.
Consistency is established with procedures and rules that are reinforced. Modeling of the procedures and rules allows students to actually see and hear desired behaviors, and positive reinforcement will ensure that the expected behaviors continue.
I take pride in my organizational skills, not just in my work, but how I maintain my documentation and files, both on and off the computer. Those organizational skills will extend to how I set up and run my classroom. I will lead by example with my students; encouraging them to develop their own organizational skills.
Prepare! When a teacher is prepared with the classroom arrangements, rules and procedures, and lessons, wasted time is minimized and there are far less issues with student behavior. A prepared teacher is an effective teacher.
Classroom management starts on the first day. I will set the tone for a positive classroom environment, build relationships, share the rules and consequences, establish the procedures, and encourage and inspire mutual respect and participation from the very first moment the students step into my classroom.
