MEA Timeline 2022-2023

May/August

• Attend Summer Conference (Leadership Conference) - July

• Attend school board meetings-board packets will be sent to you electronically.

• Welcoming Committee partners with Chamber to make baskets for new teachers and sends note welcoming them.

• Membership committee will attend New Teacher luncheon.

  • - Membership/Power of We Training at HS library. Try to get 2 people from each building to attend. Have this group work on new teacher luncheon presentation the same day.

• Contact members to serve on any open committee positions.

• Welcome back address at first inservice

• Plan membership drive and possible welcome back social (Membership and Social Committee should do this)

• Meetings (3rd Friday of each month at 7:00 a.m.) Location TBD

• RECERTIFICATION VOTE

September

• Budget approval at first meeting (as set up by the Treasurer) - MOTION REQUIRED

• Obligation Report via JDC for PERB. JDC will contact presidents. Treasurer can help complete this.

• School Board forum for elections

• Bargaining and workshop trainings

October

• Prepare for National Education Week in November- treats for teachers, support staff, breakfast, radio spots, etc… (Kathy McCaulley has headed this up)

• Negotiations/Advocacy (if needed)

• Wrap up membership

• Social after conferences

• Begin Planning for Festival of Trees

• After winter break, touch base with Amanda DeWulf about the scholarship

• Read Across America- money budgeted for this

• Delegate Assembly in March (we have people voted in for this)

• Prepare ballot for MEA election

• Election (to be completed by April 1st)

• End of the Year Banquet/Reception

  • Contact Retirement committee and Social committee to plan end of the year banquet honoring retirees, Friend of Education and Teacher of the Year

April

• Send out Teacher of the Year and Friend of Education nomination form

May

• Scholarships-present MEA scholarships at awards assembly

• Reimburse presidents for dues. (half of dues for each president)

• Welcome new officers and building reps

• Ratify contract
