Mapping Municipal Administration Quality

Is the Municipal Administration Quality evenly distributed across space? Or does it show specific geographical patterns? The following maps show that each pillar has its own spatial properties, spanning from the well-known North-South to the less documented Urban-Rural divide. 

The economic and fiscal ranking (Pillar III) reflects the recognized North-South economic disparity.

In contrast, the quality of bureaucratic apparatus (Pillar I) does not display a consistent geographical trend,  though numerous municipalities in Campania, Basilicata and Calabria fall into the lowest quintile.

The quality of local politicians (Pillar II), assessed through their personal characteristics, tends to be lower in more peripheral municipalities.
