Caravaggio, Rubens, Velasquez

Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio (1571-1610)

Caravaggio was an Italian Baroque painter known for his naturalistic and dramatic style, characterized by strong contrasts of light and dark (chiaroscuro). He painted religious and mythological subjects with a focus on realism. Notable works include "The Calling of Saint Matthew" and "The Supper at Emmaus."

Notable Artwork: "The Calling of Saint Matthew" (1599-1600)

"The Calling of Saint Matthew" is one of Caravaggio's most famous works and is known for its dramatic use of light and shadow. It depicts the moment when Jesus calls Matthew, the tax collector, to become one of His disciples. The painting is celebrated for its naturalistic portrayal of the scene and its striking use of chiaroscuro, a characteristic of Caravaggio's style.

Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640)

Peter Paul Rubens was a Flemish Baroque painter famous for his exuberant use of color, dynamic compositions, and versatility in themes. He produced works covering various subjects, including history, mythology, and religion. Notable works include "The Descent from the Cross" and "The Garden of Love."

Diego D. Velasquez (1599 -1660)

Diego Velázquez was a Spanish Baroque artist who served as the court painter to King Philip IV of Spain. He is renowned for his exceptional portraiture and realistic depictions, capturing the character and personalities of his subjects. Notable works include "Las Meninas" and "Portrait of Pope Innocent X."

Diego Velázquez was a Spanish Baroque painter, and he is celebrated for his portraits and his role as the court painter to King Philip IV of Spain. "Portrait of a Little Girl" is a charming example of his portraiture, known for its sensitive depiction of the young subject and Velázquez's ability to capture the character and personality of the individuals he painted.
