During summer of 2020 right after COVID-19 peak, I was a volunteer at Northwest Youth Corps with a group of 6 other teenagers. We dedicated 4 weeks during summer to restore wetlands in front of West Eugene Wetlands Red House in a partnership with Bureau Land Management. During the restoration project we would trim all the woody bushes that were on the land. We also did removal of invasive species around the bike trails around North Bank Path, specific to Himalayan Blackberries and Cutleaf teasel.
After the experience I had at Northwest Youth Corps I decided I wanted to study Environmental Education and do something for the environment because everything we did just feel like a reward. I've always enjoyed being outside and this was the opportunity that led to me where I am now a days. I will forever be grateful for the chance I had to do this project.
