Maestro Juan was the Spanish teacher for my class of students. Since the beginning he greeted me with a lot of excitement, and he was happy that I was fluent in Spanish because he wanted his students to receive the class in Spanish. He demonstrated me his support in multiple occasions. I remember the first lesson we were teaching my kids were talking over me, he stepped in and said “No hay razon porque la maestra tenga que alzar su voz para que ustedes la escuchen, porfavor silencio. / There is no reason the teacher should raise her voice for you to listen to what she is saying, please silence.” The kids eventually silenced it down and I could keep with the lesson, when the lesson finished, he came up to me and told me personally “Ay maestra, asi empecé yo tambien/ Aye teacher, I started the same way as you.” And then he told me, you’ll get it with time and then he shared with me all the tips and tricks for getting kids’ attention back from an activity. The second week of us teaching, he came back to me and told me “Que bien lo hiciste, mis niños se divierten. / You did so great, my kids had fun.” He kept encouraging me throught the whole five lessons. During our last lesson he asked if he could keep one of the hummingbird lessons because he wanted to remember this project forever.
Gracias Maestro Juan por el apoyo!
