Manuel Lucero is an Associate Professor in and Chair of Science Education Department from 2018, Education and Phycology Faculty, specialist in research in Educational Psychology. Lucero is also principal investigator (PI) in a scientific research team known as GIDEX. His main research focus is Peer Learning (including peer tutoring, cooperative learning, peer assessment, and so on) in core skills (e.g, writing, history, science, mathematics). Broadly speaking, his research examines (a) the use of cooperative learning as a pedagogical practice that promotes socialization and learning among students from Elementary Education through to tertiary level and across different subject domains; (b) understanding how cooperative learning encourages the development of interpersonal skills and motivates students to participate more actively in the teaching and learning process; (c) Lucero is also involved in work on academic discourse of teachers and students. He conducts his research in partnership with teachers and students, which results in teacher education and professional development designs and materials.
Lucero earned his Ph.D. and master’s degree in educational Phycology at Extremadura University and his bachelor’s (B.A.) degree in Phycology at U.N.E.D. University. He currently teaches preservice and doctoral-level courses. He advises graduate students in Teaching and Learning (M.A.) and Teaching and Teacher Education (Ph.D.). He consults regularly with teachers; teacher education programs; and social studies leaders at school district and Extremadura’s Autonomous Community level.
