Leg attacks in Mantis Boxing are comprised predominantly of kicks to the lower extremities, groin, and midsection. Higher kicks found in Tae Kwon Do, Kickboxing, and some Karate, etc. are mostly non-existent. While one could add these to Mantis Boxing, the style devoted kicking energy to targets that are more effective at ending the fight.
Some of the kicks found in Mantis Boxing, should be executed with 4 point kicking in mind. This can assist in preventing a takedown, or counter. The knee comes up first, then the foot, then the foot returns, and then the leg drops. Kicks that use this principle are Toe Kick, Heel Kick, and Side Kick (if thrown to midsection).
Each of the kicks below, function in different ranges. For our purposes here, the ranges consist of:
Long - outside, or on the edge of critical distance*
Mid - inside critical distance, outside of striking range with hands
Short - within striking range with hands
Close - grappling range. Tied up in the clinch.
