For those of us living outside of China, India, Nepal, and cities with large Tibetan populations, immersion learning is a challenge. The reality for many of us is that it doesn't get far off the ground because the sources of comprehensible input available for self-study are minimal.Â
Dictionaries don't always keep up with the latest developments in language as it evolves, and it really is important to have native speakers tutoring us as a source of demystifying some words and phrases. My corpus of interlinear translations for myself and my students is growing from the dialogue-based texts that I have recommended, in addition to studying with tutors and consulting dictionaries and automated translation where useful.
My goal is to create my own graded materials for you all with both comprehensible input (interlinear guides) as well as audio practice files (English then Tibetan for TSL, Tibetan then English for ESL). Expect to find more of those graded dialogues here over the coming months and years, and I will become more available to coach people through the existing dialogues to fluency and recommend qualified tutors who can do the same.
