At MandaLearn, we take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our mobile application and services.
## 1. What We Don't Collect
- We do not collect or store your personal conversations, chat history, or texts outside of the essential service processing.
- We do not track your precise location.
- We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.
- We do not collect, store, or transmit your device activity logs, websites visited, or individual app usage statistics when you use our Screen Time / Focus features.
## 2. Information We Handle
### Basic Account & Profile Information
- **Social Login (Google & Apple Sign-In)**: When you create an account, we receive:
- Your name
- Email address
- Profile picture (optional, based on your settings)
- **User Profiles & Leaderboards**: If you participate in our Leaderboard, your chosen public profile name, avatar (preset icon or social profile picture), and learning achievements (e.g., speaking counts, practice streak) will be visible to other MandaLearn users.
### Device Permissions & Data
- **Camera Access (Book Scanner & Challenges)**: We request access to your device's camera to enable the Book Scanner and specific challenge modes (e.g. scanning text or sky images). Scanned images are processed in-memory or sent securely via encrypted channels to AI OCR APIs for instant text extraction. The images are not stored or saved permanently on our servers.
- **Microphone Access (Speaking Practice & Shadowing)**: We request access to your device's microphone to capture your speech for roleplay, shadowing, and speaking exercises. Your voice recordings are processed on-device or sent securely to AI speech-to-text providers for grading and pronunciation feedback. We do not store your raw audio files on our servers.
- **Screen Time & Family Controls (Device Activity API)**: To enable focus and screen time features, the app requests permission to use Apple's Family Controls / Screen Time APIs. All monitoring, usage tracking, and app-blocking actions are executed entirely on-device by iOS. No personal app activity logs, website logs, or screen time data are sent to our servers.
### Payment & Subscription Processing
- All payment transactions are processed securely by Apple App Store and Google Play.
- We use **RevenueCat** to manage subscription states and purchases. RevenueCat receives transaction tokens and receipt metadata to verify your Pro status. We do not store or have access to your credit card or billing details.
### Backend Infrastructure
- We use **Appwrite** to securely store user settings, learning progress (streaks, badges, saved words), and account preferences. All data stored in Appwrite is encrypted both in transit and at rest.
## 3. How We Use Your Information
Your data is used solely to:
- Provide and improve the app's functionality (including AI features, speaking grading, and text scanning)
- Sync your learning progress across devices
- Process and verify your premium subscriptions
- Display your score on the public leaderboard (if opted in)
- Provide device-based focus and blocking features as requested by you
- Send essential service notices or learning reminders (which you can opt out of at any time)
## 4. Leaderboard Opt-Out
Our leaderboard helps motivate users by displaying engagement stats. You can opt-out of the leaderboard at any time in your account settings. Once opted out, your profile name, avatar, and stats will be hidden from the public leaderboards.
## 5. Third-Party Services and AI Processing
We use secure, trusted third-party service providers to power key features of the app:
- **Authentication Providers**: Google Sign-In and Apple Sign-In.
- **Subscription Management**: RevenueCat.
- **Database & Cloud Storage**: Appwrite.
- **AI Processing (OpenAI & other partners)**: Scanned text, prompt inputs, and speaking audio may be sent to third-party AI APIs for OCR, translation, and evaluation. We ensure that:
- No personal identifiers (like email or name) are shared with these AI providers.
- The AI providers do not use your data or inputs to train their models.
- All transmission is secured via HTTPS.
## 6. Your Rights and Control
You have full control over your data:
- **Delete Account**: You can delete your account and all associated progress data at any time via the account settings.
- **Device Permissions**: You can revoke Camera, Microphone, and Family Controls permissions at any time through your iOS/Android system settings.
- **Communications**: You can opt-out of learning tips or notifications inside the app.
## 7. Data Security
We implement industry-standard administrative, technical, and physical security measures to protect your data. All communication between the app and backend services is encrypted using TLS/SSL.
## 8. Disclaimers & Limitation of Liability
- **As-Is Service**: MandaLearn’s AI translation, pronunciation grading, book scanning, and screen time management tools are provided on an "as-is" and "as-available" basis. We do not guarantee absolute accuracy of translation, transcription, or grading.
- **Limitation of Liability**: To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, MandaLearn and its developers shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages resulting from (a) the use or inability to use the app, (b) any errors, inaccuracies, or bugs in the software (including screen-blocking issues), or (c) unauthorized access to or alteration of your transmissions or data.
## 9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When changes are made, we will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this policy and notify you within the app.
