Macaulay Turner

PhD student (2022 - Present)


Macaulay obtained his integrated masters in Biomedicine at Lancaster University where he heavily focused on Neglected Tropical Disease doing two research projects on the parasite Trypanosoma brucei. Whilst at Lancaster he also spent some time in Ghana interning at an insecticide treated bet net lab. Following his degree Macaulay worked at the UK Health Security Agency at the Vaccine Evaluation Unit where he evaluated the efficacy of meningococcal vaccines.

Macaulay’s project focuses on the Neglected Tropical Disease trichuriasis looking at the infective parasite whipworm. Using NanoSIMS he is exploring the feeding mechanism of the parasite, and also drug localisation.
