My guru is the only person in my life for which I have immense respect and thankfullness for all of that she did for me .
A BIG THANK YOU TO MY GURU MANJUSHA MA'AM !
Guru Manjusha Saxena was born on 21 January 1970 in Katni district of Madhya Pradesh. Born in a middle family, there was no dance environment in Guru Manjusha’s house. The father was strongly against the dance. Nevertheless, the film started dancing after watching the dance. But I could not learn from the support of family. Once at an event, the Air Force officer saw her dance and was impressed and got married. After marriage, she moved to Delhi where her two sons were born. Even after getting involved in family and children, they did not stop dancing, then they started becoming victims of domestic violence. To bear the family became his compulsion. But as soon as the sound of ghungroo, tabla and shringa were heard in their ears, they would forget all their sorrows. To fulfill his dream, he started to learn Bharatanatyam under the guidance of Guru Saroja Vaighanathan in Delhi and completed the nine-year course in five years. From here he got the purpose of living life.
Bharatanatyam got recognition in Rajasthan
SHe told that it was a challenge for me to recognize Bharatanatyam here in Rajasthan when my husband transferred to Jodhpur. People in Rajasthan did not know Bharatanatyam and those who knew it did not respect this art. People here only knew Kathak or classical Rajasthani dance like Ghoomar, Kalbeliya and Terathali in classical dance. He decided to identify Bharatanatyam and started in this direction. Since the language of Bharatanatyam was Tamil, its lyrics and dance arts were difficult. But they simplified it so that the students started to understand. Then he started his dance school ‘Shivam Natyalaya’ by taking recognition from the Center for Ancient Arts, which is recognized by the Government of Chandigarh.
Jodhpur made hub
GURU Manjusha has provided diploma in Bharatanatyam to six thousand girl students from her school so far. At the same time, 15 girls have got them arranged. With Bharatanatyam classes being conducted at six places including AIIMS in the city, students from Udaipur, Kota and Jaipur are coming to learn. Right now in Corona era, students are learning dance from online class. Today Jodhpur has become the ‘hub’ of Bharatanatyam. Manjusha, a guest faculty at IIT Jodhpur, says that ‘human beings should never adopt shortcuts, go the whole way. A person should always be a disciple and find the talent inside him and pursue it, to do so is to truly worship his Guru. ‘
