FOR UNDERGRADS
I often teach classes in the philosophy of mind and language. Somewhat less often, though still fairly regularly, I teach logic. Occasionally, I teach metaphysics.
I'm proud to have been nominated for Teacher of the Year in 2021, 2022, and 2023. The class for which I was nominated in 2021-Mind, Matter and Language (PHIL08014)-was also nominated that year for Outstanding Course.
All of the necessary materials for a class (readings, slides, handouts, assignments, lecture recordings, and links to relevant content on YouTube) are available on its official Learn site. If you're a student in the School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences at Edinburgh, and you'd like access to the Learn site for one of my classes, please contact me via email.
FOR POSTGRADS
I've taught PhD seminars on the metaphysics of content (aka the problem of intentionality), expressivism, truth, neo-Fregean theories of attitude content, material constitution, and essentialism. I've also taught MSc seminars on the philosophy of artificial intelligence and the semantics of proper names.
I've participated in more than a dozen PhD defenses. Here are the students for whom I was a primary or a regular advisor: Bill D'Alessandro (PhD 2017), Marziye Lotfi (PhD 2022), Hashem Morvarid (PhD 2023), and Tingjiang Kuang (PhD in progress). Unofficially, I often meet with Gustavo Cilleruelo Calderón (PhD in progress) to discuss his work in NLP.
