Malaya Kumar Nath completed B. E. in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from BPUT Odisha, India, and M. Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering (Signal Processing) from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, India. He completed his Ph.D. on Signal Processing from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati.
He joined the National Institute of Technology Puducherry, Karaikal in July 2013, where he currently holds an Assistant Professor position in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering. Besides teaching, he has been assigned academic responsibilities such as: department academic coordinator, M.Tech. project coordinator, BoS member, etc. He was seconded to the Asian Institute of Technology Bangkok, Thailand, by the president of India for teaching Error Control Coding in 2018 for one semester.
His area of research includes machine learning and biomedical image processing. He has published 27 articles in reputable SCI journals and 25 papers in renowned conferences. According to Google Scholar, his publications have been cited approximately 1323 times with an h-index of 21. He is an Associate Editor of the Multimedia Tools and Applications journal (Springer). He has supervised four Ph.D. and Five M. Tech scholars in signal processing. He has completed two funded projects.
He successfully organized many conferences and workshops (a few of them are AICTE ATAL FDP in 2024, SERB Sponsored Karyashala (May 2024) & Symposia (May 2024), AICTE ATAL FDP in 2021, GIAN Program in 2022, Digital India in 2015, etc.).

I, Dr. Malaya Kumar Nath, currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at NIT Puducherry and holding the post of Associate Dean of International Relations, Alumni, & Publicity. I have served as the Head of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering from 5.02.2024 to 23.01.2025. I have completed my Ph.D. in signal processing in the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department, IIT Guwahati, where I have completed my M. Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering. I started my academic career on 10th July 2013 @ NIT Puducherry and had the opportunity to work as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, in 2018. My research focuses on machine learning, biomedical signals, and image processing. I have published 36 articles in SCI journals and 27 conference papers, with 1887 citations and an h-index of 23 on Google Scholar. I am currently an Associate Editor for the Multimedia Tools and Applications (Springer) journal. I have supervised four Ph.D. scholars and five M. Tech students and am presently supervising three Ph.D. scholars. Additionally, I have organized numerous academic events, including SERB-sponsored Karyashala workshops & Symposia in 2024, a GIAN Program in 2022, an AICTE-sponsored ATAL FDP in 2021 & 2024, and Digital India in 2015, Technical fest Gyanith in 2024 and Tarangg in 2015 & 2016. Alongside my departmental responsibilities, I am a class advisor for current third-year B. Tech students and actively engage in funded projects to advance my research. Now, I have one ICMR project on AI-based early detection of cardiovascular disease from multimodal signals and medical records for clinical care.
