Along the coastline of Sarangani, bounded on the north by the Alabel Municipality, ties Malapatan which was once a forest in-habited place Blaans and Muslims. The place bounded on the east by mountain ranges that mark the boundary between South Cotabato and Davao, is traversed by mountains, rolling hills and rivers. Between these mountains and rolling hills are fertile valleys and plains which lured the Christians coming from as far as Luzon and Visayas to look a better pay-off in life. Aware that there is a greater promise in the place because of its bountiful and land potentials the influx of settlers increased.
Thus, progress was achieved as years passed by. With these progress sprang, grew and later calculated for the opening of the schools so that poor and the unlettered children of the community could have formal education and be afforded a better way of life. Thus, schools were opened under the Municipality and District of Glan and Malapatan Barangay High School is one schools opened.
Aware of the fact that Glan District has grown to become a big school District and believing that Malapatan has the reasons and qualified to become another school district, Mr. Miralam Tillah, then, Superintendent of the Schools in South Cotabato, created the school district of Malapatan with Felipe O. Pulanco as principal of Malapatan Elementary School and In-Charge of the district. With the big turn-out of elementary graduate and realizing the geographical location of Malapatan is almost midway of Glan and General Santos City, the Parents-Teachers Association(PTA), barangay and Municipal officials conducted as census for first year student. Three copies of these census papers which bore signatures of the three aforementioned groups where submitted to the district supervisor of Glan. The same copies were sent to the division superintendent and were approved on May 1966.
Classes were temporarily held at the Malapatan Elementary School, while the two-storey PTA building was under construction. Then Mr. Pulanco served as the schools Assistant Principal.
A year after a 4,052 square meters site, where the two-storey building had its donation papers from the owner, Engr. Columia Lizardo. In 1970, the school population increased. Classes consisted of first year to fourth year students. Mr. Bernardino A. Cobrado acted as the schools assistant Principal.
In 1984, a two hectare site was acquired through the monetary donation on the PTA and other civic minded citizens of the locality. The school was finally nationalized in the later of 1988 through the implementation of the Republic Act 6655, otherwise known as Free Public Secondary Act of 1988. From Barangay High School it was named Malapatan National High School.
The school now has three(3) sites, the main site were the SPA Students, SHS Laboratories and other offices were located., Site-B for the regular JHS Students and Site-C for SHS Classrooms.
