On Halloween, as on most occasions in life, it pays to play to your strengths. I am no makeup artist, but here's what I am good at: Amassing beauty products and watching YouTube. In search of costume for my face, I decided to put my skills (and my well-stocked bathroom) to the test and try a few video tutorials, all of which claimed (natch) to be supereasy. Here's what I learned.
For this classic All Hallows' Eve getup, you'll need black and white face paint, a black eye shadow, and a couple of makeup brushes: one for creating thin lines, one for slathering on paint, and another for blending shadows. It's a pretty straightforward tutorial, though I take issue with the order of application. I was instructed to map out the details in black and then put on the white paint, which just made everything muddy. If I had to do it again, I'd apply the base first, followed by the darker details. I'd also invest in a thinner brush for detailing since my lines didn't come out as straight or realistic as I'd hoped.

This creepy disguise gets bonus points for convenience: everything used to create the look came out of my everyday makeup bag. It's not an easy one though. I can nail a cat eye 80 percent of the time, but my hand was never quite steady enough to get the painted-on visage to match my actual face. For this step, place your brush into the powder then firmly press it into the skin; this step helps the powder make its way into pores and lines for a smoother texture.
Bronzer can give your skin that sun-kissed glow all year long. Use a dedicated bronzer brush to sweep a golden tan across your face; bronzer brushes are crafted with more bristles, and placed much more tightly together, ensuring you get the most out of your colorful bronzer with each and every swipe.
Highlighters come in a variety of forms, including liquids, creams, and powders. You can choose to use one, or find your favorite combination of two or three. Whatever you choose, the application process remains the same.

Before applying gloss, prep your lips. If your lips are chapped and cracked, be sure to use a gentle lip scrub to remove any dead skin and apply a protective lip gloss. Next, use a lip conditioner or moisturizer to soften the lips further. After your lip balm has absorbed, blot any excess.
Begin applying your lip gloss from the center of your lips, and drag the applicator along the length of your pout. Try to avoid pulling any gloss above your natural lip line, and smack your lips together lightly to ensure your lip gloss reaches all the nooks and crannies of your lips.
