As we all know, plastic has been become a huge environmental issue over the past 50 years. Plastic waste ends up in the oceans, drinking water, the side of the road, and so many other places that it does not belong. Our focus is single use plastics, one of the most common types of plastics seen polluting the earth. A single use plastic is a disposable plastics that is typically used once, such as: plastics straws, grocery bags, food wrappers, plastic bottles, etc. Did you know that approximately half of all plastic made each year (300 million tons) is single use plastics? Single use plastics are especially dangerous for our environment because they are difficult to recycle. Because items like the plastic straw and bags are small, they will fall in the crevices of a recycling machine. Most recycling center will not accept such items, meaning that that over half the plastic being produced is being dumped in landfills or into our oceans. Once these plastics are thrown out, they begin to break down, releasing chemicals that can get into our water and food sources. The plastic also poses a large threat to wildlife around the world. Our goal at MakeSomePlastic.com is to work together with the community to create the best bio-plastic alternative to reduce the plastic waste. As humans, it is our responsibility to care for the world that we live in. We must be aware of the effects that our actions have on the planet and the ecosystem. If we are careless, and do not begin to change our ways, the planet may be unsustainable in the future.
