To ensure diversity in the sources we cover, I have acquired demographic statistics regarding gender, ethnicity, race, age, and major. I compare these numbers to the people that we cover in our publication and approve sources only when they cover as many possible sectors of our student body.
When I assumed my role as Print Managing Editor, I wanted to get more input from the student body in terms of what they wanted to see covered and how. Once a semester, I invite a group of 15-20 students representing different groups on campus and 5 editors for an hour-long conversation. These meetings propel our future brainstorming sessions and keep our content catered to as many aspects of our audience as possible.
