## Frequently asked questions
### How do I unlock MakeID Pro?
Open MakeID, go to Settings, tap the Unlock MakeID Pro banner at the top. $9.99 one-time, no subscription. Universal Purchase means you buy once and use it on iPhone, iPad, and Mac with the same Apple ID. Family Sharing is supported.
### I bought Pro on my iPhone but not my iPad or Mac. How do I unlock there?
Open MakeID on the other device, go to Settings, tap the Pro banner, and tap Restore Purchase. As long as you are signed in to the App Store with the same Apple ID you used to buy, Pro will unlock automatically.
### Can I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us, because Apple processes all App Store payments. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID, find MakeID, and request a refund. Apple typically decides within 24 hours.
### My iCloud sync is not working.
Check the following:
1. You are signed in to iCloud in iOS Settings (your Apple ID at the top).
2. iCloud Drive is on (Settings, your Apple ID, iCloud, iCloud Drive).
3. MakeID is allowed to use iCloud (Settings, your Apple ID, iCloud, scroll down to apps, make sure MakeID is on).
4. You did not turn off sync in MakeID itself.
If all four are correct and sync still does not work, give it a few minutes when first enabling. CloudKit can take a moment to begin replicating. If it still fails after 10 minutes, email support with the device model and iOS version.
### My exported PDF looks blurry.
The most common cause is a low-resolution source photo. For print-quality output, source photos should be at least 400 by 400 pixels for the card's photo area. MakeID warns you when a photo is below the recommended resolution during editing. Replacing the photo with a higher-resolution version fixes most blur issues.
### Smart features stopped working. I see "quota reached."
You have used your monthly smart-feature actions. Free tier is 10 actions per month, Pro tier is 200. The quota resets on the first of each calendar month.
You can also bring your own Anthropic API key in Settings (Bring your own API key). With your own key, smart features are unlimited and billed directly to your Anthropic account.
### Can I print double-sided on a regular printer?
Yes. MakeID has three print workflows:
- **Home printer.** Front and back on the same A4 sheet. Fold and glue or laminate. Works on any single-sided printer.
- **Duplex printer.** Front pages first, then mirrored back pages. Use your printer's two-sided long-edge setting.
- **Print shop.** One card per page with crop marks (Pro adds 3 mm bleed). Send the PDF to any print shop.
### Can I import my existing roster?
Yes. On Mac, drag a CSV file onto the window. On iPhone or iPad, use the Import button. Auto-Map suggests which CSV columns match which MakeID fields. You can also paste a messy list from email or Slack and Paste Import will structure it for you.
### Where is my data stored? Can MakeID see it?
Locally on your device. If you have iCloud sync on, also in your private iCloud database. MakeID developers cannot read your private iCloud data. See the Privacy Policy for full details.
### Does MakeID work without an internet connection?
Yes. The entire core app works offline. Only the smart features (Auto-Map, Paste Import, Natural Search, Field Translator, etc.) require an internet connection because they call the Claude API. Card creation, editing, printing, and export all work offline.
### How do I delete all my data?
Delete the MakeID app from your device. If iCloud sync was on, also remove MakeID data from iCloud in iOS Settings, your Apple ID, iCloud, Manage Account Storage, MakeID.
### Is MakeID a subscription?
No. MakeID is a one-time purchase. There are no recurring charges. The free version is genuinely free forever, and the $9.99 Pro unlock is paid once.
### Why is there a watermark on the back of my free-tier cards?
The watermark is only on the back, never the front. It is small and discreet. Pro removes it from both sides. The front of every card looks identical regardless of tier.
### Can I use MakeID commercially or print cards for my business?
Yes. There is no restriction on how you use the cards you create. Print them, laminate them, send them to a print shop, hand them out to employees or members. Your cards are yours.
