Ripple Marks
RIPPLE MARKS
These are formed on the top of sedimentary beds by water movements above the sedirnent.
Symmetrical ripple marks are caused by back-and-forth oscillation of waves. Asymmetrical ripple marks indicate the current direction with the steep faces on the downstre am side.
Occasionally, interference ripple marks are seen as two intersecting ripple orientations where water has flowed or oscillated in a different direction to that forming the earlier set of ripple marks.
