Review of chosen graphic
I have chosen to review the Ryanair website. I have used the design principles discussed in class to review this website.
Positive Aspects
Contrast
There is a strong use of yellow vs dark blue, which creates high visibility. Most important elements like "Book Now" stand out clearly. Pricing and offers are emphasised visually, drawing attention
Repetition
Throughout the website there is consistent use of brand colours (blue and yellow), button styles, and the layout. This creates a brand identity which is recognisable and easy to use.
Alignment
Boxes are generally aligned; navigation is simple, as the bar is well-structured horizontally.
Proximity
It is clear that related elements are grouped together. Information regarding flights, like the date and from/to where, is kept together on the website.
Negative Aspects
White Spaces
The website feels crowded; there are too many elements all competing for attention. (Ads, offers, pop-ups, banners, etc.) This reduces readability.
Overuse of Contrast
Sometimes, too many bright yellow elements are used. There is visual noise. Many elements look equally important. This leads to users not knowing what is supposed to be prioritised, creating confusion.
Extra Services
Additional services like insurance or priority are heavily pushed. This can feel manipulative.
Proposed Improvements
Improve White Spaces
Remove the unnecessary clutter by increasing 'empty' space between sections, text blocks and buttons.
Refine 'Hierarchy'
Focus on prioritising different functions. Flight search being primary, deals/promotions being secondary and finally add-ons.
Reduce Visual Noise
Limit the amount of pop-ups. Ensure the focus is on key sections/messages in each section.
Keep website more balanced
Keep the stronger contrast only for more important sections like the booking button. Avoid stacking too many elements in one area.
