Member Requirements
Meeting Attendance
Science National Honor Society holds 4 regular meetings throughout a full school year. Members must attend at least 50% of the meetings per year.
Ethics and Grades
Students in the Science NHS are expected to maintain high ethical standards. Membership in the Science NHS will be revoked for major behavior infractions, including:
- Plagiarism
- Infractions that result in multi-day suspensions
Students in the Science NHS are expected to maintain grades of A’s or B’s in their current science courses.
Yearly Experience Points
Members must fulfill yearly membership in order maintain their membership in the Science National Honor Society. Points are awarded for completing science related activities. The point reward breakdown is below.
1 Point will be awarded for active participation in science activities such as:
- Science Olympiad Team (1 point per meet attended with team)
- Engineering Club (1 point per four meetings attended or 1 point per activity attended)
- Environmental Club (1 point per four meetings attended or 1 point per activity attended)
- Science Peer Tutoring (1 point per 2 sessions)
2 points will be awarded for completing the following science activities:
- Giving a science lecture
- Competing in a science contest such as
- Rube Goldberg
- Physics Bowl
- Science Fair
- Other activities as deemed appropriate by the Science NHS leadership
1 point will be awarded for attending a science event such as a science-themed conference, lecture, museum event, or other activities as deemed appropriate by the Science NHS leadership
0.5 points will be awarded for attendance at Science NHS Meetings
