We are delighted to share that Veronica Hugger, founder of Mah Jongg! Galveston, will be teaching Beginner Mah Jongg at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at UTMB.
Whether you’ve been curious about Mah Jongg or are ready to learn the game everyone is talking about, this welcoming beginner course is the perfect place to start. Veronica is known for her clear instruction, engaging style, and ability to build players’ confidence from the very first class.

Participants will learn:
• The fundamentals of American Mah Jongg
• How to read the card and understand the tiles
• Game flow and basic strategy
• Skills to confidently join a table and play
At the completion of the course, students will be ready to step into open play and begin enjoying this timeless and social game.

For those looking for an extra shot at winning, we offer a Last Chance optional buy-in tournament during Round 6, with cash prizes awarded to the top three players who participate.
We also intentionally limit the number of players, giving you better odds and a more personal, elevated tournament experience.
