In CyberSecurity Group (CSG) at MacEwan University, we organize Cybersecurity Awareness Series to familiarize our students with the cybersecurity challenges, threats, developments, and the market requirements.
CYBERSECURITY AWARENESS is critically required for a secure cyberspace. Cybercriminals are constantly discovering new ways to circumvent the latest defensive tools and technologies, infiltrating your systems. Being aware of actual and potential cyber threats is essential to safeguarding data.
AI is rapidly transforming cybersecurity by enabling scalable anomaly detection, automated incident response, and continuous monitoring. In this talk, the implications of autonomous offensive AI is examined for cyber-physical systems and Zero Trust architectures, outline the resulting asymmetry between attackers and defenders, and propose a research agenda focused on autonomous defensive systems, self-healing infrastructure, and AI-driven cyber resilience. Furthermore, the concept of cyber resilience as a critical evolution beyond traditional cybersecurity, is presented.

While AI-based technologies enhance cybersecurity, they also create new opportunities for adversaries, leading to emerging challenges in cyberspace security. As a result, traditional network access control methods are insufficient to address these evolving threats. Zero Trust represents a significant shift from the traditional “Trust but Verify” approach to a “Never Trust, Always Verify” model in modern access control systems.
