The Standards, and How it Relates to Our Project for Professional Development
We felt a growing need to provide teachers with innovative and creative ideas to assist and support them in their specialty fields within our project’s education field. Allowing teachers to come together to learn and discover new and innovative ideas that encompass a standard of excellence is essential for professional growth in the profession was our primary focus. To validate the various courses given to the teachers on the website, we wanted to include several standards. Some of these standards are the PSEL, ISTE, and the Danielson Framework. The Professional Standards of Educational Leadership, commonly known as (PSEL), addressed the need for effective educational leaders to encourage academic success for both the students and teachers. One way for teachers to learn is to provide moments of collaboration. We created several courses to meet various teaching professions as they gather in a collaborative environment. Some of these courses include Assessment, Groups vs. Courses, Teaching Tools, Grade Book Session, and Bitmoji.
Another set of standards discussed in the Professional Development project is ISTE. ISTE is at the forefront of discovering best practices to prepare students to meet the 21st Century demands. Technology helps meet the goals for teachers and students for professional and academic growth. Professional Development provides information to enhance growth and progress on a larger scale. Our project infuses the need to connect teaching strategies with technology as digital citizenship is highlighted in the standard. An assessment tool is needed to ensure the curriculum meets all students’ needs to have sufficient standards. In the website’s Implementation section, teachers are asked to explore assessment and Schoology while reflecting on common academic subjects in many school districts.
The Danielson Framework provides administrators an opportunity to sit with teachers to support learning in the classroom for all students and ensure the necessary resources are available for meaningful learning. The administrator can also help the teacher’s needs and provide adequate guidance and recommendations for professional growth opportunities. Therefore, our project’s design was an opportunity to address all stakeholders’ needs to enhance best practice. Each course allows and promotes the sharing and exchange of information in a collaboration effort. There is also a survey at the end of the website asking participants to suggest future Professional Development ideas, which can benefit teachers as they make strides to work with their students’ needs.
