Workshop I – Substance Use Disorder, Mental Health, and Narcan…Let’s talk about it.
Presenter: Mrs. Charlotte Bryant, Outreach Coordinator, MS Department of Mental Health
Description
When a person is suffering from an SUD and other mental disorders simultaneously, they are said to have a dual diagnosis. Several organizations, including the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the National Institute on Drug Abuse, have established a clear link between mental illness and the use of addictive substances. When a person’s SUD includes the use of opioids, they can accidentally overdose due to the potency of these drugs. Naloxone is an opioid reversal drug that can help save that person’s life.
