As an educator, I believe that music is the key to opening the doors of discovery to the unknown, adventure, and opportunities that allow a child to grow and transform into their fullest potential. It is imperative that a safe and nurturing environment is provided where students can foster a lifelong love of music.
In the classroom setting, I envision every child having the opportunity to experience the pure beauty of music. I accommodate the individual needs of a child through various teaching methods, different learning style approaches, and universal design learning. Music is a universal language, and therefore it is for all children to participate in. The music classroom is an inclusive space that fosters and celebrates diversity and is culturally responsive. Open communication is a value that I believe is important in the music classroom. With open communication, collaboration, and the mindset of a “team”, true learning can happen within the four walls of the music classroom. Students must feel that they matter and need to feel validated. Therefore, I believe it is crucial that faculty, parents, and the school community work together to create a conducive learning environment. I believe that continued learning is essential to being an educator. I plan on furthering my education by attending workshops in the summer to benefit and transfer new knowledge to my students.
My hope as a music teacher is for my students to look back on their time in the classroom as resourceful, effective, and fun. My overall goal as an educator is to provide my students with a humanistic approach to learning that allows them to grow and to find their own key to the door of their “fullest potential” .
