TypoZap is an on-device grammar correction and text rewriting Chrome extension. This Privacy Policy explains what information TypoZap processes, how that information is used, and the choices available to users.
SUMMARY
• TypoZap processes selected text locally on the user's device. • Selected text is not sent to TypoZap's developer or to a remote AI service. • TypoZap does not sell personal information. • TypoZap does not use advertising, analytics, or tracking technologies. • Model files are downloaded from third-party hosting services and stored locally by the browser.
INFORMATION TYPOZAP PROCESSES
Selected text TypoZap processes text only after the user selects text on a webpage and explicitly chooses "Rewrite with TypoZap" from the context menu. The selected text is provided to the locally running model to generate a corrected version.
Selected text is: • processed temporarily in browser memory; • not intentionally stored after the rewriting operation; • not transmitted to TypoZap's developer; and • not transmitted to Hugging Face, MLC, or another remote AI inference service.
For editable fields, TypoZap displays the original and rewritten versions and changes the selected text only after the user clicks "Replace Selection". For read-only pages, TypoZap displays a copyable result without modifying the webpage.
Extension settings and status TypoZap stores limited operational information using Chrome's local extension storage, including: • the user's selected model; • model loading status; • model loading progress; and • the identifier of the currently selected model.
This information remains on the user's device and is used only to operate the extension.
Local model files TypoZap downloads model weights, configuration files, and related assets required for on-device processing. Chrome may store these files locally using browser storage technologies such as IndexedDB or Cache Storage. These files can be large.
NETWORK CONNECTIONS AND THIRD PARTIES
TypoZap connects to model-hosting infrastructure only to download the files needed to run its local models. These services may include: • Hugging Face; • MLC model hosting infrastructure; • content-delivery or cloud-storage infrastructure used by those providers.
The selected text submitted for rewriting is not included in these model-download requests.
All JavaScript and WebAssembly executed by TypoZap is included in the extension package. External model weights and configuration files are downloaded as data for local inference.
As with ordinary internet requests, model-hosting providers may receive technical information automatically supplied by the browser or network, such as the user's IP address, request time, and basic request headers. Their handling of that information is governed by their respective privacy policies.
CHROME PERMISSIONS
TypoZap uses the following Chrome permissions: • activeTab: Temporarily accesses the active tab after the user invokes TypoZap. • scripting: Injects TypoZap's rewriting interface only after the user chooses the context-menu command. • contextMenus: Adds the "Rewrite with TypoZap" command for selected text. • storage: Saves the selected model and operational status locally. • unlimitedStorage: Allows large local model files to be cached on the device. • offscreen: Runs the local Transformers.js model in a hidden extension document. • alarms: Supports long-running local model loading and inference operations.
TypoZap does not request continuous access to all websites. Page access occurs only following the user's context-menu action.
HOW INFORMATION IS USED
Information processed by TypoZap is used solely to: • correct grammar, spelling, tone, and sentence structure; • display the original and rewritten text for user review; • replace text after the user explicitly confirms the replacement; • download and run local language models; and • remember local extension preferences and operational status.
DATA SHARING AND SALE
TypoZap does not sell, rent, trade, or share selected text or personal information with advertisers, data brokers, or analytics providers.
TypoZap does not use processed text for advertising, profiling, credit decisions, or training remote AI models.
DATA RETENTION AND DELETION
Selected text and generated results are retained only temporarily in browser memory while TypoZap performs and displays a rewrite. TypoZap does not intentionally maintain a history of rewritten text.
Users can remove locally stored settings and downloaded model files by clearing the extension's site data or uninstalling TypoZap through Chrome's extension settings.
SECURITY
TypoZap is designed to keep rewriting operations on the user's device. Reasonable safeguards are used to limit page access to explicit user actions and to avoid replacing text if the original field changes while a rewrite is being generated. However, no software or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
TypoZap is not directed specifically to children, and the developer does not knowingly collect personal information from children through the extension.
CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
This Privacy Policy may be updated when TypoZap's functionality or legal obligations change. The effective date at the top of this document will be updated when material changes are made.
