Marga Shilpaya (“Marga Shilpaya”, “we”, “our”, or “the app”) is a driving-theory learning application designed to help learners study road signs, road markings, traffic rules, video lessons, practice questions and mock examinations.
This Privacy Policy explains what information may be collected when you use Marga Shilpaya, why it is used, how it is protected, and the choices available to you.
1. Information We Collect
The information collected depends on how you use the app.
Account information
If you create a Marga Shilpaya account, we may collect:
Email address
Name or profile name
Authentication information required to securely sign you in
Account identifier
Account creation and account status information
Passwords are used only for authentication and should be securely protected by the authentication system. We do not display your password to other users.
Learning and progress information
When you use learning features, we may store information such as:
Questions attempted
Correct and incorrect answers
Practice-session results
Mock-exam results
Learning progress
Tutorial progress
Saved or bookmarked questions
Practice history
Learning streak information
Target driving-exam date
Progress statistics such as accuracy and questions practiced
For signed-in users, some of this information may be synchronized with our server so that learning progress can be associated with the learner account.
App preferences
We may store preferences you choose in the app, including:
Preferred language
Sinhala, English or Tamil selection
Light or dark appearance
Font-size preference
Selected learning mascot
Tutorial-preview preference
Other personalization settings
Some preferences may be stored locally on your device, while certain preferences may also be synchronized with your account.
Guest-mode information
Marga Shilpaya can be used without creating an account.
When using Guest Mode, learning information may be stored locally on your device. Guest progress may not be recoverable if the app is removed, app data is cleared, or the device is changed unless the user later creates an account and the app supports transferring that progress.
Support communications
If you contact us using WhatsApp or email, we may receive information that you voluntarily provide, such as:
Your name
Email address or telephone/WhatsApp number
Your support message
Screenshots or other information you choose to send
Support communications are used only to respond to your request, investigate problems, and improve the service.
When you open WhatsApp or your email application from Marga Shilpaya, those services operate under their own privacy policies.
2. Analytics and App Usage Information
Marga Shilpaya may use Google Analytics for Firebase in released versions of the application to understand how the app is used and to improve the learning experience.
Analytics may include information such as:
Screens viewed
App interactions
Tutorial opens
Practice-session starts
Mock-exam usage
Login or sign-up events
App version
Device and operating-system information
General technical and usage information generated by the analytics service
We do not intentionally send a learner's email address, telephone number, password or full name as custom Google Analytics event parameters.

If Firebase Analytics is not enabled in the version of Marga Shilpaya you are using, this analytics collection does not occur through that service.
3. How We Use Information
We use information collected through Marga Shilpaya to:
Create and maintain learner accounts
Authenticate users
Provide driving-theory lessons and practice features
Save and synchronize learning progress
Display practice and mock-exam results
Provide bookmarks and saved questions
Track learning progress and streaks
Display exam countdown information
Remember language and personalization preferences
Improve app usability and performance
Diagnose errors and technical problems
Understand which learning features are useful
Respond to Help & Support requests
Protect the app and its users against misuse
We do not use learner information to guarantee a driving-test result.
4. Sharing of Information
We do not sell your personal information.
Information may be processed by service providers necessary to operate Marga Shilpaya.
These may include:
Database and hosting providers
Used to securely operate the backend, store learner accounts and synchronize learning information.
Google Firebase / Google Analytics
If enabled, used for app analytics and usage measurement.
Hosting and deployment providers
Used to host APIs, administration tools and application services.
WhatsApp
Used only when you choose to open WhatsApp to contact Marga Shilpaya support.
Email providers
Used when you choose to contact support by email.
These third-party providers process information according to their own terms and privacy practices.
We may also disclose information when required by applicable law, legal process or a valid government request.
5. Data Storage and Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect user information.
These measures may include:
Secure HTTPS connections
Authentication controls
Restricted administrative access
Secure database access
Password protection using secure authentication practices
Access controls for administrative functionality
However, no internet service, mobile application or data-storage system can guarantee absolute security.
6. Data Retention
We retain personal and learning information only for as long as reasonably necessary to:
Provide the Marga Shilpaya service
Maintain a learner account
Synchronize learning progress
Fulfil support requests
Protect against abuse
Meet applicable legal obligations
Locally stored Guest Mode data remains on the device until it is removed by the user, cleared by the app, or deleted when application storage is removed.
Support communications may be retained for a reasonable period to resolve the relevant issue and maintain support records.
7. Deleting Your Data
Marga Shilpaya provides controls for removing locally stored learning information.
Depending on the version of the app, this may include data such as:
Practice history
Saved questions
Mistake history
Learning progress
Saved sessions
Exam date
Other locally stored learning information
Deleting local device data does not necessarily delete a registered online account or information already synchronized with the server.
Account deletion
If you have created a Marga Shilpaya account, you may request deletion of your account and associated personal data by contacting:

When a valid account-deletion request is processed, associated account information and server-side personal data will be deleted except where retention is required by law, security requirements, fraud prevention or legitimate record-keeping obligations.
Google Play requires apps that allow users to create an account to provide a clear and accessible account-deletion mechanism and to delete associated user data rather than merely disabling the account. Google Help

You may:
Use Guest Mode where available
Choose whether to create an account
Change language and personalization settings
Save or remove bookmarks
Clear supported local learning data
Contact us about your information
Request deletion of your registered account
Disable or limit certain analytics where supported by the app or operating system

9. Children's Privacy
Marga Shilpaya is intended for people learning driving theory and preparing for a driving licence.
We do not knowingly design the app to collect unnecessary personal information from children.
If you believe that a child has provided personal information inappropriately, please contact us so that we can review and, where appropriate, delete the information.
10. External Content and Links
Marga Shilpaya may display or open external content, including:
Tutorial videos
Email applications
Other external services or websites
Once you leave Marga Shilpaya or interact with a third-party service, that service's own privacy practices apply.
11. Driving-Test Information
Marga Shilpaya is an independent educational application.
It is not an official government service and is not presented as being operated by or affiliated with the Sri Lankan Department of Motor Traffic or another government authority unless explicitly stated otherwise.
The app is intended as a learning and practice aid and does not guarantee that a learner will pass a driving licence examination.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as Marga Shilpaya changes, including when new features, service providers or data practices are introduced.
When significant changes are made, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this policy and may provide additional notice where appropriate.
Users should review this Privacy Policy periodically.
