Tamatea-Pokai-Whenua was born in Hawaiki in the pe He was the son of Rongokako and a family member of the legendary Maui.

Tamatea-ariki-nui was born in hawaiki in 1350,                                  Tamatea also had 2 wives in his family. Tamatea-Ariki-nui was

f5 commander of the waka Takitimu and some tribal traditions. It carried sacred relics and among its crew were those schooled in the old-time lore of Hawaiki. It arrived at the western end of Ninety-mile Beach at a place called Awanui and then travelled round the island to the safe landlocked harbours of the East Coast. As Tamatea decided to stay at Tauranga, Tahu took charge of the canoe as it travelled on in search of greenstone.Tamatea's life in the new land was not, however, a completely happy one.

                                       Push factor

Polynesians left their islands because of their curiousity and they wanted to explore the world. The year 1350 was when Tamatea and the canoe left hawaiki and landed in Aotearoa.

                                        Pull factors

The reason for the polynesians coming to New Zealand is because of their voyaging on their canoes and curiosity of what else is in the world like if there's another island.
