The SOHOMA International Conference was held from 28-29 September 2023 in Annecy, France. The following MAD Research Group members, pictured here from left to right, attended the conference: Azhar Cader, Stefan le Roux, Corné van Dyk, Arno van Bruggen, Dr Karel Kruger and Prof Anton Basson.
Nicole Taylor, a PhD student in the MAD research group, has her work featured in Brainstorm's magazine. The research was conducted in collaboration between the MAD Research Group and the Sound and Vibration Research Group at Stellenbosch University.
The research focuses on the development of a human cyber-physical system capable of modelling passenger motion sickness aboard sea vessels. This innovative system empowers stakeholders to make data-driven decisions with passengers' comfort in mind.

Our research group had the honor of presenting at Techno-Buzz, an engaging two-week event hosted by Automation Works at Swellendam Primary School and Bellville Technical High School.
The event is geared towards introducing high-school students to a wide range of engineering technologies, sparking curiosity and passion through interactive workshops and demonstrations.
It provided the students with a unique opportunity to explore various facets of engineering, igniting a newfound motivation to pursue careers in this dynamic field.
Two Masters students, Hanno Erwee and Katherine Nicholls, along with Prof Anton Basson, had the opportunity to visit and collaborate with the University of Lorraine in Nancy, France from 22 - 25 May 2023. This visit was used to share and discuss research into the use of holonic architectures to facilitate data management and human-system integration in healthcare. Both students presented their work and explain their use of the BASE software platform to design and implement their holonic software systems.
In February 2023, three Masters students, Corné van Dyk, Arno van Bruggen and Stefan le Roux, visited the BMW plant in Munich, Germany. The purpose of the trip was to collaborate with stakeholders within BMW to ensure alignment between the student's research and the company’s current interests. The visit allowed the students to build international relationships with BMW and gain insight into the topics that are important to the automotive manufacturer. Tours of the BMW Plant Munich, BMW Headquarters, BMW Welt and the BMW Museum exposed the students to the heart of the company and its long-standing history of innovation
Our students' visit to the BMW Group included a trip to the BMW Rosslyn plant.
Research continues in good spirit (and over MS Teams) amidst the COVID19 pandemic.
