Recently, I teamed up with my mother in law, Karen Ehman, to write a cookbook, Come and Get It: Recipes to Warm the Heart & Satisfy the Soul. This resource is unique, in that we have sprinkled “Hospitality Hacks” and “Soul Soothers” throughout the book. The hospitality hacks are intended to help you on your journey to being a hospitable host, to give you gift-giving ideas, and to take away the stress that comes with hosting others. The soul soothers are tidbits of mental health information of ways that you can improve your mental health by manipulating your physical environment or your nutrition. The Sunflower Project is a collection of poems that tell the story of phases of life; growing from the seed of innocence and naivety, to almost withering into nothingness with the loss of self-love and self-worth; then being revitalized by rediscovery and restoration and unfolding petals that are kissed by the sunshine of freedom, healing and the reclaiming. The Sunflower Project tells the story of love and loss, faithfulness and faithlessness, brokenness and abandonment, and finally introduces the rebirth and the determination to becoming centered, whole, and victorious in existence once again.
Consumed: The Survivor’s Story divulges a season of spiritual transformation brought about by the author’s confrontation of her worst fears: being alone, never becoming a mother, and dying without ever truly living in purpose. Consumed picks up with the optimism left in The Sunflower Project’s unLYSHing to reveal the conflict between the woman empowered by her rediscovered worth and the woman with minimal understanding of her wounds. This darker, mature, but relevant collection of poetry and short stories rips open misconception and takes the reader into the heart of full-fledged inner turmoil as revelation unearths the fragility of the mind, the plight of the abused, the narcissistic lover, the insult of worst enemies, an unhealthy body, a suicidal struggle, and the frail trust in the God called Father. Created in the midst of world disaster and continued in the years since, Consumed unpacks the layers to surviving the world and its challenges, heartbreak and grief, and essentially, oneself. It breathes of the journey to settle into one’s humanity while putting the pieces of life together over and over again, with patience, intention, forgiveness and Love.
