Location: Logan River Trail where the trail crosses under Highway 89
Definition: A process in which downhill surface flow creates shallow channels (called rills) through erosion. This erosion creates a hillslope where water preferentially flows down shallow rill channels.
Explanation: The video shows rills being formed in piles of sediment by meltwater as it travels downhill on the pavement. The meltwater eroded down the pile of sediment, creating small rills and forcing other surface runoff to travel downhill through the small channels.

Location: In front of the NR Building on USU Logan Campus
Definition: A form of precipitation in which water vapor condenses around dust particles in the atmosphere causing liquid water droplets to fall to the Earth's surface.
Explanation: The video focuses on a puddle because rain drops can clearly be seen hitting its surface, causing ripples. The cloudy conditions and wet surroundings also indicate that it is raining. (Plus, I was there getting wet!)

Location: The Logan River trail near Stoke's Nature Center
Definition: Base flow is a term describing the level of flow in a river in between precipitation events.
Explanation: The snow observed in this video was the first precipitation event above the Logan River in a few weeks. The water level in the Logan River at this time reflected base flow because it was clearly not influenced by recent rain or snowmelt events. Many emergent boulders are seen protruding from the stream bed, another indication that the water level was relatively low and not supplemented by runoff or snowmelt.

Location: The Logan River Trail where it crosses beneath Highway 89
Definition: Snow is a form of precipitation in which droplets are formed in the atmosphere under sub-freezing temperatures, leading to the formation of snowflakes.
Explanation: The snow picked up quite a bit between the video above and this video (both taken in the same general area on the same day). This snowstorm had relatively light flakes but did accumulate very quickly on our hats, jackets, and canine friend.

Location: Logan River trail before the crossing under Highway 89
Definition: Interception is a term which describes the quantity of precipitation prevented from reaching the ground by vegetation or other obstructions.
Explanation: In the video, snow is seen accumulating on the flower buds of the rabbit brush. This accumulated snow represents the interception caused by the rabbit brush plant.

Definition: Condensation is the process by which water vapor in the air close to cold surfaces loses energy and forms water droplets on the surface.
Explanation: I woke up to a sheet of frost over my windshield one morning in the spring. The water frozen on my windshield must have been the result of condensation because no precipitation had fallen the previous night and the ground surrounding my car was completely dry.
