The Sustainability Champion will lead the development and implementation of sustainability initiatives across the school district. This role is responsible for promoting environmental stewardship, reducing the district's ecological footprint, and integrating sustainable practices into school operations and curricula. The Sustainability Champion will collaborate with administrators, teachers, students, and the community to foster a culture of sustainability.
Strategic Planning
Develop and implement a comprehensive sustainability plan for the school district.
Set short-term and long-term sustainability goals in areas such as waste reduction, energy efficiency, and resource conservation.
Program Development and Management
Initiate and oversee programs related to recycling, composting, energy conservation, and sustainable transportation.
Coordinate waste reduction efforts, including food waste diversion and zero-waste initiatives.
Policy Integration
Work with policy makers to incorporate sustainability into school policies and procedures.
Advocate for sustainable practices in procurement, operations, and facility management.
Education and Curriculum Support
Collaborate with educators to integrate sustainability concepts into the curriculum.
Develop educational materials and workshops for students and staff on environmental topics.
Community Engagement
Engage with parents, local organizations, and community members to promote sustainability initiatives.
Organize events and campaigns to raise awareness about environmental issues.
Monitoring and Reporting
Track progress towards sustainability goals and prepare regular reports for stakeholders.
Analyze data to identify areas for improvement and adjust strategies accordingly.
Grant Writing and Funding
Identify funding opportunities and write grant proposals to support sustainability projects.
Manage budgets for sustainability initiatives.
Compliance and Standards
Ensure all sustainability programs comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
Stay updated on best practices and emerging trends in sustainability and environmental education.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Education, Public Administration, or a related field.
Master's degree preferred.
Experience
Minimum of 3 years of experience in sustainability coordination, environmental management, or a related role.
Experience in an educational setting is a plus.
