MassDEP Regional Planner
Gail Sowerder Garron has worked for the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) as a Regional Planner for the Municipal Waste Reduction Branch of the Bureau of Air and Waste since fall of 2023. She currently supervises a team of eight Municipal Assistance Coordinators (MACs) and manages Green SWoRD, the MA Statewide K-12 School Waste Reduction and Diversion Working Group. She formerly managed the Recycling Dividends Program Grants and Regional Household Hazardous Waste Grants for MassDEP. Gail previously served as the MAC for Northeast District 2 for close to three years. She provided technical assistance and grant support to 39 municipalities on the North Shore, working to improve or expand their recycling, reuse and waste reduction programs. Gail also served on a regional working group focused on solid waste and recycling contracting. She has 25 years of experience working in the environmental field, including ten years with the Town of Danvers as Program Coordinator for Recycling, Energy and Water Conservation, and several years as an environmental consultant.
