Outreach

I consider education as one of the most powerful tools to transform society and reduce social inequalities among groups. Knowledge is empowering, and as teachers we have the chance to materialize social change by supporting our students. I have had the privilege to guide and teach students with different social, economic and academic backgrounds during my time as teacher at Universidad de los Andes, UC Berkeley and UCLA. Below I summarize briefly my contributions to EDI and tranings I have completed to better serve to students coming from under-represented groups. 

Women in Mathematics, UCLA 

I help organize the activities for Women in Math at UCLA together with another 3 female mathematicians: Grace, Cecilia and Elisa. I am currently mentoring two undergraduate students in this organization to promote their career.

 This is a seminar organized by Katrin Wehrheim Katrin Wehrheim held weekly on Zoom. We discuss how to implement anti-racist pedagogical practices in our classrooms and in our home University.

 This is a training offered by the Restorative Justice Center  at UC Berkeley where we discussed how to respond and support to individuals that have been exposed to harmful experiences and create strategies to change the culture at Campus. The Certificate of Completion

  This is a program to mentor undergraduate students coming from under-represented groups during their first months at Berkeley.

This is a program to mentor undergraduate students and increase their sense of belonging at Berkeley.

 I financially support and mentor Juanita Martinez during her undergraduate studies at Universidad del Quindio. 

I taught the Caulculus series courses to the Ser Pilo Paga students, a govement sponsored program in Colombia to support first generation students in higher education. 

An organization that raises funds to buy scholar supplies for children in need in Colombia.

An organization that works to to provide literacy instruction to adults who did not have access to formal education.

This is a program offered at Uniandes where college students tutor high-school students in low-income neighborhoods in Bogota, Colombia to help them improve in reading comprenhension and mathematics. 

The Food Pantry at Berkeley is a non-profit organization that provides groceries to families and individuals in need in the County of Alameda.
