An encouraging introduction to the

competitive math world.

The Event

M Snake took place on November 12, 2022 at Newton South High School from 10:00am to 4:30pm. M Snake comprises two individual rounds, which are done in the morning, and a collaborative round, which students will complete in the afternoon. After the testing is completed, students and families will have a chance to hear from our guest speaker, Professor of mathematics Po-Shen Loh, who is the founder of a revolutionary online math education program and coaches Team USA for the International Math Olympiad.

What is M Snake?

M Snake is an in-person math competition for middle school students who live in Newton or are part of NPS. The competition consists of 3 rounds (both individual and team) based on algebra, number theory, geometry, combinatorics, and logic. Competitors may register as individuals, or teams of up to four members.
With M Snake, our goal is to make an approachable and fun test. The problems are written such that they require little, if any, specialized competition knowledge, theorems, or experience. Any problem can be done by playing around with different components to piece together a solution.
