Our youth have so many talent but the question is how can they push it or be exposed? On the 5th July 2025, Intuthuko Arts Projects Partnership with Lwazi School Projects came together to attend Theatre Drama Competition 2025 at Estcourt, (Loskop Tatane Geza Hall) in KwaZulu Natal Province in South Africa. The event is targeted to the youth who are passionate about theatre and acting.
“The event was a success, we targeted talented youth to enter for a competition and show up their skills. Many youth in rural areas are talented but its unfortunate they end up nowhere due to lack of resources. Local artists, Poets and entertainers made it possible and the community was entertained. We also had Miss Valentines Queen and LIFE KZN 97.6 FM www.lifefmkzn.co.za ” said Mava Sibulawa, from Inthuthuko Arts Projects.
Besides the success, there are still lot of challenges faced by this wonderful project. The event needs banners for branding and sponsors. “Our councilor assisted us with hall and chairs and we are grateful. The other challenge we faced was having people from different provinces seeking to enter for a competition but due to low budget, we could not accommodate them all. The event will eventually grow and reach massive audience”, added Mava.
The team did well by asking for a door to door donations to buy prices for participants. The winners received: (1st – winner: Trophy, ring light and R 1000, 00, 2nd winner: Trophy, ring light and R 500, 00 and 3rd winner: Trophy and R 250).
“Our winners, 1st Umfazi wephara, 2nd Ukukhanya and 3rd Bhekabezayo were happy to grab something. I want to thank the community, sponsors and everyone who came on board and make this possible. Hopefully this event will grow and attract more sponsors. . I appeal to the sponsored by arts and culture sector to help the disadvantaged communities in the rural area because it’s hard for them to practice their skills and to get informed. This competition will help them get their creative ideas out there”, concluded Mava.
