I volunteer to serve as a judge in the 2020 CBAS scholars’ day.

Department

I wrote 17 recommendation letters to students for their application to graduate schools and scholarships.

I helped redesign and update the website of the MTSU Actuarial Science program.

I served in the ACSI tenure-track faculty search committee, together with Dr. Hong, Dr. Wu, Dr. Sinkala, Dr. Ding, December 2019 – March 2020.

I worked with colleagues drafted the BS Actuarial Science program review self-study report for Spring 2020. I also served as committee member.

I attended a meeting with Dr. Leander, Dr. Wu, Dr. Hart, Dr. Ye and Dr. Butler about getting more support for math GTAs, December 2019.

I printed and help distributed the Actuarial Science Program Newsletter (Fall 2019, 500 copies) to undergraduate students who could be interested in an actuarial science major.

I served in search committee for math instructors, together with Dr. Rebecca Calahan, Dr. Ping Zhang, Dr. Sarah Bleiler-Baxter, April – August 2019.

Served for the department in Undergraduate Ceremony Commencement on May 4, 2019.

I served in the Data Science Curriculum Committee for the new major in Data Science.

I advised the MTSU-Vanderbilt join actuarial case competition.

I served as a member of General Education Committee in MTSU Math Department, Fall 2018.

I served to represent Math Department Faculty on MTSU Arts and Sciences Majors Showcase, 9/25/2018.

I served to represent Actuarial Science Faculty on MTSU PREVIEW DAY, 9/22/2018.

Professional Service

We talked about the possible collaboration and my intelligence support can provide to their healthcare data integration platform using Python.

I reviewed a predictive algorithm of Fidelis Analytics, a health analytics company.

I am Editorial Board of Frontiers in Applied Mathematics and Statistics.

I and Dr. Hong are organizing a mini-symposium on Approximation Methods and Applications in Data Science at the International Conference on Approximation Theory and Beyond to be held at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN from May 11-14, 2020.

Vanderbilt University canceled the conference in March 2020 due to COVID-19.

Jointly reviewed research article ON THE PRODUCT AND RATIO OF PARETO AND POWER FUNCTION     DISTRIBUTIONS for International Journal of Mathematics and Computer Science. December 2019.

In 2019, I invited the CTO of Company Nurse to visit our school for lectures and discuss cooperation matters. They want to develop a model for sentiment and semantic analysis of insurance claim calls to mine valuable information from it. I conducted preliminary research and development with 2 students, and Company Nurse supported our expenses on cloud computing. Later, I tried to establish a cooperation agreement with them in order to get more funding support. Unfortunately, this research agreement was not reached because of their limited budget.

Public Service

Organized 15 students in actuarial science and math major to volunteer in the 2020 Allstate Hot Chocolate 15k/5k Nashville expo session. The event is scheduled to be held in Feb 2020.
