Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Form

General Overview 

The FAFSA form is an official online form used by the United States government, states, and colleges to determine your eligibility for financial aid. By filling out this free application, you can qualify for grants, scholarships, work-study funds, and low-interest student loans. 

Before You Complete the Form

1. Create FSA ID 

• FSA ID is the username and password you will use to access your FAFSA form.

• Go to this site to create your FSA ID: https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch

• When creating your ID, use your personal email! You will have to fill out the form each year you're in school, so your high school email won't work

• Both you and your parents/guardian will need to make one. 

• Write it down and keep it somewhere safe and easy to access.

2. Determine Your Dependency Status: https://studentaid.gov/apply-for-aid/fafsa/filling-out/dependency 

• If you're a dependent student, use the Who's My FAFSA Parent? Wizard to identify which parent(s) will be a required contributor on your form 

3. Gather the appropriate financial information: https://studentaid.gov/apply-for-aid/fafsa/filling-out#documents
