What I'm Currently Up To!
Right now I'm the Lighting Supervisor at Shakespeare & Company. I supervise two full-time staff members as well as a plethora of overhire electricians. In this jam-packed season, I work on devised pieces, new work, Shakespeare, and a variety of rentals and events). I cannot express how much I value the collaborative efforts and collective spirit of our production team as a whole.
Here's just some of what I did (and will do) this season!
CATA 2026 Performance Showcase (Lighting Designer - Me!): I curated secure lighting environments for a variety of devised performances (including dance and live music) with some of the most dedicated artists and educators I've ever met
Fireflies (Lighting Designer - James McNamara): Together with our designer I conceived how to sprinkle fireflies throughout the set with the help of a complex map of fiber optic cable
Shakespeare & Company's 2026 Gala (Lighting Designer - Me!): I wove monologues and movement together into an impactful moment in a successful fundraising event
Twelfth Night (Lighting Designer - Erika Johnson and Me!): We battled the elements with the help of our new wireless DMX system to create indoor and outdoor versions of a hilarious take on Shakespeare's classic
Circus & the Bard: A Tempest Tossed (Lighting Designer - Me!): In collaboration with circus performers, we taught Shakespeare enthusiasts of all ages about the meaning behind The Tempest through acrobatics, clowning, and genuine heart
Frankie & Johnny in the Clair de Lune (Lighting Designer - Madeleine Herbert): We built a functioning New York City apartment including a TV, stove, fridge, and a magical railing of light
Shake It Up: The Remix (Lighting Designer - Me!): I dove into cuing and (sometimes) busking a rock band while tying together a story of how Shakespeare's female characters view war and love
Hamlet (Lighting Designer - Erika Johnson): We are loading in a Hamlet for storytellers, and for those unafraid of what lurks in the dark.
Midsummer Dreamers (Lighting Designer - Erika Johnson): We are prepping for a devised piece that explores the line Shakespeare walks between whimsy and danger in A Midsummer Night's Dream (more to come!)
The Norwegians (Lighting Designer - Me!): We are preparing for a dark comedy that ebbs and flows through time and how to capture the cold chill of the Midwest (more to come!
