- Instructional Delivery – The competent teacher differentiates instruction by using a variety of strategies that support critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, and continuous growth and learning. This teacher understands that the classroom is a dynamic environment requiring ongoing modification of instruction to enhance learning for each student.
The project that I worked on that represents and articulates the Illinois Professional Teaching Standard 5 is my classroom Flip Project. A Flip Project is a very useful tool that many teachers use today. A Flip Project contains a video or a recording of a teacher teaching a certain standard and he/she has their students watch it. In a way it's likes an introduction to a lesson before the students even step inside the classroom. The video or recording is then followed with quiz questions and the results go right back to the teacher and the teacher can see exaclty where the classroom is at and what needs to be covered in class. The Flip Project or Flip Classroom has so many benefits to both the teacher and the student. A student can learn more and a teacher has more time to do things like experiements in his/her classroom. My Flip Project was made for a second grade class and it was about what your heart rate is, how to find it and what it looks like before and after working out. My Flip Classroom Project consisted of a video and then followed up with quiz questions that would show what they have learned.
My lesson shows the importance of the Illinois Professional Teaching Standard because it consists of a lesson followed by questions. This lesson plan is very well tied in with the standard that I am teaching from. The standard that I am teaching from is evident throughtout my entire lesson.
In the end, I loved learning about the Flip Classroom because it is so incredibly beneficial in so many ways. It benefits me because I am learning ways to be a better teacher and I can connect with my future students better and be an overall better educator. I learned a lot from this experience and after creating my Flip Project I realized that there is still so much to learn and discover. There are hundreds a fantastic teaching strategies that I still haven't discovered yet. I believe that the Flip Classroom could benefit so many students if more teachers used it. I believe that their are so many benefits students face in a Flip Classroom compared to students who are in just a normal classroom. While creating my Flip Project, I realized that all students learn very differently. So, in a way, this could benefit the entire class or this could benefit only a part of it. The performance indicator that I used within my lesson plan is 5N and it states "uses technology to accomplish differentiated instructional objectives that enhance learning for each student". Which is exactly what I did!!!
