About the Lufkin Road Middle School Band

The Lufkin Road Middle School Band Program offers three concert ensembles: Beginning Band, Concert Band, and Symphonic Band. Students also have the opportunity to participate in Pep Band. Under Mr. Wing’s direction, the Lufkin Road Band program has grown to approximately 265 students. Beginning Band students meet in 2 heterogeneous classes, while students in the Concert and Symphonic Bands are audition-based, leveled ensembles.

Lufkin Road Middle School Band students regularly earn spots in prestigious groups such as the WCPSS Middle School All-County Honor Band, NC ECDBA Middle School All-District Bands, and the North Carolina All-State Band. Under Mr. Wing’s direction, the bands consistently receive Superior Ratings at both state and local festivals. The Lufkin Road Symphonic Band was recently invited to perform at the 2026 Music for All Southeastern Regional Concert Festival in Atlanta, GA hosted by Georgia State University. In 2025, the Lufkin Road Middle School Symphonic Band was invited to perform at the Music for All Mid-Atlantic Concert Band Festival in College Park, MD hosted by the University of Maryland.
