ABOUT ME

I began writing for theatre when I hit 40. There's nothing like a birthday with a zero on the end to focus the mind. I spent my twenties and thirties working in the music industry, so stepping from record companies to the stage seemed a natural progression. In the last dozen years I've written short plays, monolgues and two full-length plays. The first, Demolition, had a rehearsed reading at Stratford Theatre Royal East. The second, Lofty Ambitions, was staged at the Barons Court Theatre in west London. My many short plays have been performed at numerous London Off-West-End theatres, including the Bush Theatre, the Cockpit Theatre and the Pleasance Theatre. While working in the music department of St Paul’s Cathedral, I also co-wrote a script for a link-up between the International Space Station and the cathedral - so my words have been literally out-of-this-world!

My artistic journey parallels an unconventional personal path - from playing bass in a 90s Britpop band to being elected Ale Conner of the City of London, the ceremonial role of official beer taster. I hold the office of Knight of the Serene Republic of San Marino, and I'm also a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Musicians. These diverse experiences have shaped my theatrical vision, drawing on both my institutional knowledge and outsider perspective.

I speak French, Italian, German and Scottish Gaelic to varying degrees, so I have an understanding of the challenges for those who live in the UK but don't have English as a first language.

Collaborating with other creatives is always fun. So get in touch if you'd like to work with me!
