During my internship the summer before senior year, I focused on creating documentation for processing material failing to meet company quality standards at Rockwell Automation. Collaborating with employees across the supply chain division, I gathered input to shape the documentation and cross-checked it with existing procedures. I then presented my project to the supply chain management team and condusted training sessions for employees. This internship marked my first experience in a large company with a structured environment, fostering my confidence in independent work and project management. I also received valuable guidance on public speaking and writing skills from higher-ups. Overall, this experience enhanced my ability to produce clear and effective documentation that synthesizes complex in to one, easily accessible source for employees.

I gained valuable exposure to real industry-level experience at Rockwell Automation. My project involved collaborating with members of various departments to streamline and improve documentation for material processing procedures. I learned to navigate interactions with individuals of different authority levels effectively while also leveraging opportunities to establish new connections and inquire about future career prospects. By creating accessible resources, I aimed to improve production efficiency and enhance understanding across departments. I remained focus on meeting deliverables and sought advice to enhance my skills as a worker and an engineer for future career endeavors.
Initiated and resolved non-conforming material notifications for the material review baord
Aided buyers, production control analysts, manufacturing engineers, and shift leads with pending material processing tasks
Drafted documents outlining material return, rework, and scrap order procedures in SAP
Managed six trainings sessions across three shifts to introduce and guide new documentation usage
Presented documentation, training plans, and outcomes to 20+ Rockwell Automation supply chain management members

My project aimed to streamline material return, rework, and scrap order processing by creating a comprehensive procedure. After researching existing documents and consulting various departments, I found discrepancies between each department that ultimately lead to processing delays. I consolidated essential details into a master draft, which formed the basis of the final document. This document featured numbered steps, screenshots, and flowcharts, indicating departmental responsibilities and authorization levels. This centralized approach ensures all departments have access to up-to-date information and are informed of responsibilities of other departments, facilitating efficient processing of orders.
I had started my internship about five weeks later than other interns, meaning my presentation to supply chain management lacked concrete data that demonstrated my project's effectiveness due to less time for completion. In addition, this marked my first early career presentation and I had little idea as to what to expect. I collaborated with my team lead and manager to refine presentation details and sought advice on presentation expectations from their prior experiences. This presentation not only showcased my competency as an intern but also highlighted the guidance and support from my team lead and manager. I also practiced in front of other supply chain interns to get feedback from their own experiences in presenting.
Part of my project involved writing information pertinent to lead and managerial positions, but distinctions between departments made it difficult to understand who held necessary authorizations. Through discussions with various departments, I identified individuals with the authority for such tasks and gained insight into their roles and responsibilities, ranging from managers to senior engineers depending on the department. This informed the content of my documents to ensure they were applicable and accessible to employees of all ranks and departments. Additionally, I inquired about the company escalation system and interdepartmenal issue resolution process, incorporating this into my documents. This ensured clarity on whom to contact in case of questions or concerns within any department, minimizing downtime and backlog.
I had to articulate the procedures clearly and concisely to cater to employees of various knowledge bases and skill levels. This involved consolidating approximately six procedural documents into one cohesive document, incorporating insights gathered from discussions with various departments. Despite the need to include extensive information, I ensured the content was easily digestible for a PowerPoint presentation format. Organizing the information into logical sections, supplemented with images/ screenshots and annotations for clarity. Adhering to company formatting guidelines, I sought feedback from my team lead, peers, and other employees to refine the material for cohesiveness. Ultimately, I condensed over 100+ slideshow pages into approximately 20, excluding section markers, and it is not officially part of the new hire onboarding material.
My project originated from a list of ongoing tasks within my department, and rose in urgency as several senior members had plans to advance in their roles or transition elsewhere. The heightened urgency and lack of availability from other staff left me to manage the project independently, handling scheduling and seeking assistance when necessary. Weekly meetings with my team lead ensured project completion and provided support for career development for after my internship. I leveraged these meetings to identify additional resources and establish deadlines to maintain project momentum alongside other responsibilities. Working autonomously allowed me to concentrate tasks at hand and overcome apprehensions about initiating interactions, especially with significantly higher ranked employees. Completing the project ahead of schedule allowed time to focus on career development in the final weeks of my internship.

I gained valuable insights into the expectations of a professional work environment, which will benefit me in various engineering roles. I have honed my ability to streamline and organize materials for enhanced efficiency in teamwork. Feedback received on my intern presentation has equipped me with skills applicable to future presentations and meetings, especially in my early career. This knowledge enables me to adapt swiftly to new work environments and enhances my self-sufficiency. Feeling more confident in working independently, I now have a foundation of expectations to build upon throughout my career journey. This experience has not allowed me to refine my engineering skills but also provided valuable lessons on personal growth and adaptation in the industry.
